Dropping a Course

We hope you have a great cross-campus online learning experience. However, if you need to drop a course for any reason, here‘s how.

1. Check the Deadline for Dropping a Course

Deadlines differ from campus to campus. Contact the host campus Registrar’s Office to verify the deadline for dropping a course. The dates that apply for adding/dropping a course are those of the campus where you are taking the online course.

2. Email a Request to Drop the Course

If you choose to drop a course before the deadline, use your school email account and email Student Support with the following information:

  • Course name (e.g., “Calculus for Science, Engineering and Mathematics”)
  • Course number and section (e.g., “Math 19A” and "UC-SC-201304-MATH-19A-ONLINE-E001")
  • Reason for drop request

If you are acting after the deadline to drop a course, your late drop/withdraw request must be approved by both your home and the host campus. Use your school email account and email Student Support with the following information:

  • Course name (e.g., “Calculus for Science, Engineering and Mathematics”)
  • Course number and section (e.g., “Math 19A”and "UC-SC-201304-MATH-19A-ONLINE-E001")
  • Reason for late drop/withdraw request

3. Verify You’ve Been Dropped from the Course

Before the deadline: Once you've been dropped you will receive an email confirmation specifying the reason for your drop. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24-48 hours, please email Student Support.

After the deadline: Student Support will request late drop/withdraw approval from both the host campus and your home campus. You will be notified via email on the status of your request. Please allow 3-5 business days for updates.
